About the Madhvani Foundation Scholarship Programme
The Muljibhai Madhvani Foundation, a charitable trust, was established with the noble goal of advancing scientific and technical education for the betterment of Ugandans. In line with this mission, the Foundation launched a university scholarship programme in the 2005/2006 academic year, providing financial support to promising Ugandan students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate studies.
The scholarship programme, now in its 20th year, is designed to reduce financial barriers and enhance Uganda’s human capital by focusing on fields crucial to national development.
Eligibility Fields of Study
To ensure alignment with Uganda’s strategic capacity-building goals, the Board of Trustees has earmarked the following disciplines for sponsorship:
Agriculture
Biology
Chemistry
Commerce
Engineering
Food Science & Technology
Information Technology
Hotel Management
Pharmacy
Nursing
Architecture
Veterinary Medicine
Actuarial Science
Environmental Studies
Human Medicine
Note: The Foundation may revise this list periodically based on national priorities.
Who Can Apply?
The scholarship is open to Ugandan nationals who meet the following criteria:
Undergraduate Applicants:
Must have completed at least one full year at a Ugandan university in an eligible discipline.
Must have a CGPA of 3.0 or higher, with no retakes in any subject.
Must not be receiving any other form of scholarship.
Postgraduate Applicants:
Must have gained admission or registered for a postgraduate programme in an eligible field at a Ugandan university.
Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a listed discipline.
Preference will be given to applicants with relevant work experience.
Must not be currently on another scholarship.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
Academic performance (CGPA, class of degree, academic references)
Age and character
Financial need (self, parents, guardians, or spouse)
Work experience (for postgraduates)
Equity considerations (gender, regional balance, disability)
The Scholarship Committee reserves full discretion in the selection process. Any form of canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification.
What Does the Scholarship Cover?
Undergraduate students: Tuition fees from second year to completion.
Postgraduate students: Full tuition fees for the entire course.
The scholarship is a grant paid directly to the institution on behalf of the awardee.
Conditions of the Award
Renewal is subject to satisfactory academic progress.
Multiple retakes may lead to withdrawal of funding.
Awardees are encouraged to donate voluntarily after completing their studies to help future scholars.
The award is non-contractual and can be withdrawn at the Foundation’s discretion.
No payments are required at any stage of the application.
